Milestones in SSH History 

Though Saad Specialist Hospital’s history is relatively short, in the six years since its first patient was admitted, it has established itself as a healthcare leader, in Al-Khobar and in the wider GCC region.

1997

Construction begins, as SSH’s cornerstone is laid

In early 1997, Saad Specialist Hospital started Phase I of its construction. Those who were around at the time will tell you, at that time, it was hard to believe the mammoth task that our Chairman was undertaking, but each new day brought the dream closer to reality with scores of workers and equipment commissioned to the construction of Saad Specialist Hospital.

2000

The vision takes form with the completion of Saad Specialist Hospital.

SSH employs 27 physicians by end of 2000.

2001

SSH’s first patient is admitted on 18th February 2001.

First Saudi Birth in SSH

SSH’s first Saudi baby is delivered on 15th March 2001.

Aramco survey SSH in September 2001.

2002

SSH’s first cardiac catheterization pre-empts the Hospital’s first open heart surgery.

2003

His Highness King Abdullah, then the Crown Prince, officiates at SSH’s formal opening.

2004

Triplets are born after successful assisted fertilization (AVF) procedures at SSH

The first electrophysiology and ablation procedures in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province are performed at SSH.

2005

Re-Accreditation from the Joint Commission International is passed with flying colors.

The first gastric laparoscopic bypasses for patients suffering from morbid obesity are successfully performed.

Saudi Arabia’s first successful renal transplantation employing laparoscopic kidney harvesting from a living donor is achieved at SSH

Cardiac surgery is performed on a baby during the first week post birth.

2008

Health Sciences Center began its activity to be the focal point in the Gulf region for the treatment of cancer
