The Chest and Allergy Center
SCOPE OF SERVICE
The Chest and Allergy Center is a unique facility for the diagnosis of treatment of a variety of allergic pulmonary and non-pulmonary conditions. Patients are evaluated and treated by highly qualified Western-trained consultants using state-of-the-art equipment.
The Center is also equipped to diagnose and treat a variety of non-allergic pulmonary conditions, such as chronic cough, pneumonia, pleural effusion, occupational lung disease, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, and hemoptysis.
A service featuring flexible diagnostic bronchoscopy and thoracentesis is available.
Oxygen home therapy is prescribed when appropriate. Non-invasive ventilatory support (Bipap – CPAP) may be arranged for patients with chronic respiratory failure in a home setting.
FUTURE SERVICES
Plans are underway to expand the Center and also to increase the number of consultants. This will include the Center’s involvement in diagnosing and treatment of sleep disorders in cooperation with the departments of Neurology and Ear, Nose, and Throat.
The Center is also planning to introduce food and aspirin challenge testing. An aspirin desensitization program for aspirin allergic patients is also being planned.
A program to establish the expertise and the necessary equipment to Saad Specialist Hospital to enable professional interventional bronchoscopy (laser bronchoscopy, stents etc.) will come to fruition in the near future. This will also allow for the treatment of locally advanced lung cancer and endobronchial lesions.
