Respiratory Therapy

MISSION

The mission of the Respiratory Therapy Department is to provide life supporting, life enhancing service to its patients and to extend and improve the quality and quantity of their lives.

This is accomplished by working with the physician, the nurse, the patient and the family in a friendly, professional manner. There is provision of a full range of respiratory modalities with all age groups.

SCOPE OF SERVICE

The Respiratory Therapy Department provides its services following the American Association for Respiratory Care clinical practice guidelines, and JCI standards in accordance with hospital, medical, and department procedure manuals. 

INPATIENT THERAPEUTIC

  • Aerosolized medication therapy.
  • Chest physiotherapy and secretion clearance techniques.
  • Flutter valve Therapy. 
  • Oxygen therapy.
  • Airway maintenance.
  • Artificial airway care.
  • Invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Emergency resuscitation.
  • Lung expansion therapy.
  • Patient education.

INPATIENT DIAGNOSTICS

  • Blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Caponography.
  • Pulse oximetry.
  • Patient assessment.
  • Bedside spirometry.
  • Spontaneous mechanics measurement.
  • Aerosolized medication therapy.
  • Patient education.

OUTPATIENT DIAGNOSTICS

  • Spirometry.
  • Lung volumes.
  • Diffusion studies.
  • Exercise challenge test.
  • Cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
  • Blood gas sampling.

FUTURE SERVICES

In the near future, there are plans to introduce special medical-gas administration (nitric oxide, for example) during mechanical ventilation. There are also plans to introduce helium-oxygen administration and a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
