For example, Saad Specialist Hospital’s PET/CT System puts the facility in the vanguard of its field. The Positron Emission Tomography, coupled with a Nuclear Cyclotron, features applications for the screening of cancer cells in the very early stages before being manifested as tumor masses. Another first for the Gulf Region are recently installed Digital Operating Theaters, which feature voice activated instrumentation technology. Stryker I-Suite ™ operating rooms are designed to create the optimal operating room environment for the surgeon, staff, and the patient. They bring a whole new approach to surgical facilities with additional focus on innovation, integration, and information. The I-suite is a family of integrated operating rooms designed to meet the specific needs of each specialty. Every integrated operating room is unique, and the room is customized to meet specific technical requirements. The Stryker integrated operating rooms are a tremendous asset due to their positive impact on efficiency, ergonomics, and information transfer, as well as the enhancement of patient care.

Technology at the Health Science Center
Saad Specialist Hospital’s Health Science Center offers the most modern facilities for the early detection of cancer, treatment, and follow-up to the people of the region. Inpatient units include specialized areas to accommodate bone marrow transplant patients and other immune-compromised patients. In addition, the building includes special air handling units to accommodate immune-compressed patients. The entire building is under positive pressure, with special furnishings to create a “protected environment”.
Advanced technologies like the PET/CT System, the first Positron Emission Tomography, coupled with a 64 slice CT scanner, in the Middle East, and Medical Cyclotron feature applications for the screening of cancer cells in the very early stages before being manifested as tumor masses.
Another first for the Kingdom is SSH’s new Dual Source CT, which features “imaging of every beating heart without the need of beta blockers and at half the radiation dose”.
The Magnetom Espree at Saad Specialist Hospital is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A 1.5Tesla MRI Scanner with the shortest available magnet (1.25m long), its unique open design means that it is particularly effective in treating obese or claustrophobic patients. Most importantly, perhaps, this scanner is often used to treat children, the design enabling our consultants to concentrate on keeping a child at ease.
The Somatom Sensation Open is a state-of-the-art 20 slice CT Scanner, located in the basement of the Health Science Center, and is the first of its kind in the region. is used by our consultants for radiation simulation to plan the actual radiation that will then be carried out on the Center’s two Linear Accelerator Oncor Avant Garde machines. Together, this equipment will help make Saad Specialist Hospital one of the premier sites for radiation oncology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region.
The Magnetom Trio is a 3.0Tesla MRI Scanner and is the first of its kind in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Due to its strength, it is geared for use by the Hospital’s Radiology and Cardiology departments, where the speed and strength of this technology can have a major impact on a patient’s treatment.
The AXIOM Artis dBA is a dedicated, fully digital Neuro interventional biplane Lab, giving Saad Specialist Hospital the capability to steer into a depth of Neuro Interventions that were either difficult or impossible before. The lab has flat panel X-ray detectors on both planes, which provide immediate diagnostic information in digital form. This technology is the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and only the second in the entire Kingdom.
