Patient Safety

Saad Specialist Hospital places paramount importance on patient safety and healthcare quality. Every staff member plays a critical role in ensuring that rigorous standards are met. Through leadership driven initiatives, a culture of safety has been established whereby conditions and circumstances that could jeopardize patient safety are identified, medical errors are prevented or reduced, and patient safety priorities have become part of the fabric of Saad Specialist Hospital services. These are integrated into the everyday way things are done at Saad Specialist Hospital. A systematic, co-ordinated, and continuous approach is used to prevent and reduce medical errors and hazardous conditions.

A multi-disciplinary team at Saad Specialist Hospital is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive safety plan that includes regulatory compliance, managing the physical environment, fire safety, responding to community emergencies, control and disposal of hazardous material and waste, facility management, inspecting, testing and maintaining medical equipment, utilities management, staff education of fire and safety, and continuous safety improvement. Constant education and training programs are in place to further emphasize specific job-related aspects of patient safety.

Safety awareness campaigns are run so that everyone at Saad Specialist Hospital remains conscious of the importance of careful management of risk.

The 100 000 Lives Campaign

The 100,000 lives campaign is an initiative launched by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in collaboration with other leading organization in the USA, including the Joint Commission International (JCI) and American Medical Association (AMA). Its mission is to save 100, 000 lives through the application of best practice, thereby reducing preventable deaths and adverse events, injuries, and hospital-acquired infections.

Saad Specialist Hospital is actively participating in this initiative and is the first hospital in the Middle East to have done so. It has implemented measures designed to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia, central line infections and surgical site infections. The Hospital has also launched medical reconciliation initiatives to prevent adverse drug reactions. Saad Specialist Hospital is further developing reliable evidence-based care.
